CAI-PNW Activities
Our goal is to get you outside exploring new places and finding new challenges, especially with those interested in Italian culture and travel. Trips include hiking, naturalist activities and travelling to new places. Most of our local activities are free of charge with membership.
The club participates in social events such as the Annual Festa Italiana held in September of each year in Seattle, sometimes we participate in the Grape Stomp. An annual Christmas party is organized and held in a member’s home. Other events are organized such as weekend retreats that include outdoor activities.
Local Area Monthly Outings
Most outings are in our local area that can easily be reached in a day. Year-round hikes and snowshoeing and urban hikes are scheduled. CAI-PNW schedules monthly outings.
International Outings
CAI-PNW has a unique relationship as a sub chapter of the Pisa, Italy chapter of the Italian Alpine Club. As such, we enjoy exchanges with members of the Pisa and other clubs where our club members might travel to a destination in Italy, sometimes staying with local members who are our hosts. They organize hikes and cultural activities. We might stay in rifugi (mountain huts), many with discounts for us as CAI members. Our relationship allows us to have an exchange where the CAI members come here and our members host them on hikes and cultural activities. This is a great way to cultivate relationships with fellow outdoor enthusiasts from other countries and to show-case the State of Washington as well as other parts of the USA.
These exchanges require time and money to participate but are much less expensive than commercial tours. Persons interested in these ventures should let the trip leader know of their interest as soon as the trip or exchange is announced. These trips fill up fast. Past exchanges have included numerous trips to Italy. The club also organizes trips and exchanges to other countries as well. Members have led or participated in trips or exchanges to Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Iceland, Croatia, France, Cyprus and Israel.
