CAI – PNW 20th Year Celebration
CAI - PNW celebrated its 20th Year on Saturday, July 23, 2022!
Eleven CAI - PNW members and two prospective members kicked off the day with a walk around “Old Town” Mukilteo (pronounced Muk-al-tee-oh) led by Clarence Elstad. Old Town Mukilteo is located near the waterfront and still resembles the quaint fishing town. The tour included Pioneer Cemetery which is on the Washington State Historic Register; the historic 1906 Mukilteo Lighthouse; Rosehill Community Center; and the oldest pear tree in Washington State planted by Jacob D. Fowler in 1863. He was Mukilteo’s first homesteader.
A picnic at Mukilteo Lighthouse Park Shelter followed the walk. Members who did the walk then were joined by 12 additional CAI – PNW members for the picnic. It was great to have so many members in attendance and to visit with our longtime CAI friends.
Bart Tempe was the Master Chef for the day. A BIG thank you goes to Bart for bringing all of the necessary grilling equipment for the picnic. Members enjoyed barbecued hamburgers and impossible burgers, a selection of salads, charcuterie, grilled corn, chips, and desserts. Thanks to everyone for the delicious food … definitely a “team effort!”
The day concluded with a program led by Toni Williams and Bev Riter. Clarence Elstad shared a brief history of how CAI - PNW came to be. Bev Riter recognized charter members, acknowledged members for the number of years they have belonged to CAI - PNW, and asked folks to share how they got involved.
Toni honored Bev Riter for her 4 years of outstanding leadership as President and Flo & John Burnett for their 18 years of dedication as Membership Chairpersons. The surprise at the end of the program was the unveiling of CAI - PNW’s new logo…a BIG thank you to Joel Patience for his artistic talent in creating the logo and Dave Coder for printing a tee shirt with the logo and modeling for the group!
Concluding the picnic, each member was given a small flashlight engraved with “CAI PNW Celebrating 20 years 2002 – 2022.”
Toni Williams, Bev Riter and Kendra Wanzenried are to be commended for organizing the picnic and making it such a wonderful event!
