Kubota Garden Report
If you live in or near Seattle you may have seen the signs for Kubota Garden on the way to SEATAC Airport and wondered what it was. It is listed as the hidden Garden of Rainier Beach.
There are so many surprises here. First, it is a public park which is part of Seattle Parks & Recreation. Yes, it is a Japanese garden not to be confused with the Japanese Garden at the Arboretum. Very few people are aware of the beauty and serenity of this place. It is easily accessible and fun for those who want to balance and scamper or those who want a more leisurely stroll.
Needless to say, the 12 CAI members who were there were more in the mood to stroll and take pictures. The weather was perfect and the group enjoyed each other’s company or “amichevole” in Italian.
Some other pleasantries: easy to find and not too far away, easy parking, free admission, benches and nice restrooms, and a map.
The map was difficult to follow so the group tended to explore and then come back together. The Parks & Recreation Department was doing some tree work which became loud and cut off some areas, but this was also entertaining to watch a tree topping. We all clapped when the worker didn’t fall and was successful.
This park would be wonderful in October or May for the changing of the colors. We should do this again or come alone. You won’t be disappointed.
