Lime Kiln Trail Trip Report

On August 12th, Gerlinde Gruber joined Joanie Pryor for a leisurely hike on the Lime Kiln Trail just outside of Granite Falls. The weather was great, a few morning clouds with sun by the end of the trip. Most of the hike is in shade, so we were able to stay relatively cool. At the end of the trail there is a short climb down to the South Fork of the Stillaguamish River where they ate lunch before heading back to the parking lot.

The highlight of this trail, of course, is the old lime kiln that calcinated local limestone for use by smelters in Everett and the artifacts related to the railroad that use to wind up the valley to service the mines at Monte Cristo. It would be fun on one of CAI-PNW’s outings to hike up to Monte Cristo where there are many other artifacts including the round table that turned the trains around to head back to Everett.
