Reflection Ponds Above Spada Lake Hike
On Saturday, April 25th, Joanie Pryor was joined by Stacy Bell, Cam Bradley, and Gerlinde Gruber for a delightful 4.8-mile RT hike to the Reflection Ponds above Spada Lake in the Sultan Basin. The weather could not have been better with sun all day and a gentle breeze. This trail winds through forest for some of the way with a few clearings giving us an opportunity to see some of the peaks in and close to the Wild Sky Wilderness Area (Thanks Patty Murray!).
We had our lunch at a terrific overlook with a spectacular view to the west down the length of Spada Lake which holds Everett’s drinking water. There were lots of birds chattering as we walked and we spotted one on the lake itself, perhaps a common merganser. This trail does continue up to Greider Lake and beyond to Boulder Lake. We had no intention of continuing, however, we did query some young fellows who hiked up to Greider, saying it was a nice hike if one does not mind clambering over and around downed trees. Maybe another time!
This is a great early season hike with little elevation gain but long enough to visit and stretch your legs a bit.
