Salal Native Plant Garden and Christianson’s Nursery
Tuesday was a glorious sunny warm day and Wednesday, was damp, windy and cool. Gerlinde, Cam, Clarence and I met at the WSU Skagit County Extension to check out the native plant garden. Despite the cloudy and damp conditions, the native plant garden was enjoyable. There was so much more to see! WSU has extensive gardens to wander through. Many of the perennials were already in bloom and plenty of new growth on the trees and shrubs. Slugs, snails, rabbits and birds were enjoying the gardens as well. We were all utilizing our phones to discover plants we didn’t recognize.
We hopped in our cars and then took a short drive to Christianson’s Nursery. So many plants! We were able to locate some of the varieties that we had seen earlier. We enjoyed lunch at a picnic table on the property with a cold wind hitting us on occasion. After lunch we wandered through the hothouses to warm up a bit and marvel at the large variety of plants. I refrained from buying any plants, but Cam left with a couple of plants. As we headed down the highway, steady rain began. Perfect timing and a perfect day for an outing with friends.
